Taxonomy and systematics of the genus Rhabdolaimus de Man, 1880 have been discussed and morphological notes added. The genus is assigned to the subfamily Rhabdolaiminae, which has been shifted to the family Haliplectidae on morphological similarities. Ten new species described are: R. alpestris, R. annulatus, R. antiquus, R. hasani, R. medius, R. parvulus, R. porifer, R. porosus, R. strialaimus and R. thornei. Diagnostic characters and relationships of the new species have been given. A new genus Halirhabdolaimus to accommodate Syringolaimus loofi Gourbault and Vincx, 1985 has been proposed. The species has been transferred to the genus Halirhabdolaimus as Halirhabdolaimus loofi (Gourbault and Vincx, 1985) comb, n., and is proposed as its type species. Halirhabdolaimus is similar to Rhabdolaimus in the structure and shape of the stoma and its anterior armature, basal oesophageal bulb with well-developed cuticular valvula and in the tail and its terminal spinneret, but differs from it in having a very slender body, post-equatorial vulva and female gonad with long uteri and distinct spermathecae, presence of excretory system with a distinct ventral excretory pore, abundance of males and in being marine.
