The continental shelf is a complex and dynamic system, and despite its importance, few studies on the characterization of benthos have been developed along it, especially in the region adjacent to the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The intimate association of the benthic community with the sediment indicates the need for greater efforts in the data collection in this region. The present study aims to provide a list of genera and species of the family Tetragonicipitidae and to evaluate its spatio-temporal distribution for the studied area. A total of 23 stations were sampled along the platform, considering four isobaths (5, 10, 20 and 50 m), in two collection periods (dry and rainy). A total of 123 individuals of the Tetragonicipitidae family were analyzed, with a higher number of these organisms registered in the deepest isobath (50m). Nineteen species were registered, distributed in six genera. The genus Phyllopodopsyllus was dominant with 85% of the total individuals. The genus Odaginiceps and Pteropsyllus were for the first time recorded for the South Atlantic. The species Odaginiceps clarkae, Odaginiceps xamaneki, Phyllopodopsyllus carinatus, P. hermani, P. medius, P. mielkei, P. paraborutzkyi, P. pauli, P. simplex, P. tenuis and P. xenus were in this study registered for the first time for the brazilian coast. The species Phyllopodopsyllus hermani, P. tenuis, P. simplex and P. paraborutzkyi were dominant in most of the seasons. The peak value for total density was observed in the dry period, although significant differences were not observed between the two collection periods. A significant difference in density was observed between depths with higher density in stations of the 50m isobath. However, differences were not observed for the structure of the Tetragonicipitidae association between isobaths or between collection periods
