This work is devoted to the sindy of cirealittoraJ rocky bottoms along the coast of Roussillon. Environmcmental conditions (weak sedimentation taking place beyond this area, continuons motion of the water, salinity and temperature little changeable ail over the year) make the animal community extremely rich and diversified. The autbor gives the list of the collected species. Very grest originality of Sponges fauna. which reaches a luxuriance never observed in the Western Mediterranéc, is pointed out; this may he related to the continuous stirring and regular motion of the water. Study of Sponges epifauna and endofauoa has been made. From a bionomica1 point of view, two facies are opposed one to the otber, detrital to the West and coralligen to the East of those rocky bottoms. These communities located in the circalittoral level play the role of a transitory Area. Substratum of tbose concretions is in ail respects similar to a "beach-rocks".
