Lumbriclymene noemia from the southeastern Brazilian coast is described. The description is based on specimens collected in 20-30 meters, on sand-mud bottoms. Length of holotype 103 mm, width 3 mm, 19 setigers, one achaetous preanal. Live specimens red. Cephalic keel poorly developed. Nuchal grooves well marked, lightly curved at the anterior end. One or two stout acicular spines on the first four segments. Notopodial setae of two types: a) large bilimbates usually with finely striated blades; b) narrow winged spinulose capillaries. Setiger 5 bears a row of about 10 dentate-crested hooks. Hooks throughout the body with three to four teeth in a vertical series above the main fang and five to six gular bristles. Pygidium ventrally flattened with a sub-terminal anus.
L. noemia resembles
L. cylindricaudata Sars, 1872 in its size but differs from this latter one by the development of the head and pygidium, the colour pattern, the types of setae and the number of achaetous preanal setigers.
The relationships of the valid species of
Lumbriclymene are presented, together with an artificial key and a distribution map. A new combination,
Clymenopsis constricta, is proposed with the transfer of
Lumbriclymene constricta Wesenberg-Lund, 1948 to the genus
Clymenopsis Verrill, 1900.
Some morphological features considered to be of specific value to the diagnosis of the different forms are re-evaluated.
