Summary. Two new species of Polychaetous Annelids, Macellicephala laubieri n. sp. and Macellicephala annae n. sp. were collected by deep-dredging in the abyssal plain of the occidental basin of the Mediterranean. A comparison of the species of Macellicephala, sensu stricto, including their vertical and geographical distribution allows to distinguish 3 groups of species within the gemis. The first group contains species characterized by having frontal peaks and setae on the tentacular segment; they are found at lowerabyssal and hadal depths. The second one contains species devoid of frontal peaks and without setae on the tentacular segment; they live at bathyal and upper-abyssal depths. The last group is composed of species having no median antenna; their geographical distribution is confined to the North Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic sea and the Mediterranean.
