Additional information Pilsbry (1916) considered 10 subgenus under Balanus. Chirona is one of the subgenus of Balanus. Pilsbry 1916 consider there are two groups in the subgenus Chirona, one group is cold water group (boreal) called Chirona group. The other group is in tropical waters, called Striatobalanus group.

Newman and Ross (1976) classified Chirona as a genus, but contains two subgenus, Chirona and Striatobalanus. Later, in Ren and Liu (2007) - they revise Balanus and consider Chirona and Striatobalanus are separate, distinct genus.
