In the course of 3 Cruises of benthic samples, 37 dredgings have been made berween II2
m and 4690 m depth, most of them beyond 2000 m depth. These samples have given 50
species of Gammarid Amphipods, eight of them are new for Science. An ecological appoach
has been attempted. The study of the distribution of the different species permits to point
out, 25 of them are endemics. Concerning the bathymetric distribution, four groups can be
isolated: species limited to the upper part of continental shelf, species present on the shelf
and the bathyal plain, species strictly limited to the bathyal plain and a fourth group of five
new species sampled beyond 2500 m depth and possibly belonging to an abyssal stock.
