Publication date It is believed Quatrefages did not publish the spelling "Hemipodus" until mid 1866 in his monograph, although he published diagnoses under both "Hemipode" and "Hemipodie" in 1865. The assumption that Hemipode is Latin is permitted under Article 26 in the Code, regardless of included accents (and for example the similar Ocypode is a valid name), but, as he published a different Latinised form of the name in 1866, this clarifies that Hemipode was not intentional Latin, and the Latinised form used earlier by Kinberg (1865) has precedence, although entirely based on the name introduced by Quatrefages.
