Nomenclature G. Furnari writes (e-mail, 7 April 2010): "Acrochaetium codii was described by Hamel (1927: 30) who, however, attributed it to (P. et H. Crouan) Bornet. But, Bornet never published that combination and the intended basionym 'Callithamnion codii P. et H. Crouan (1860: 368)' is a nomen nudum. Consequently, the species should be attributed to only Hamel.
In Cecere E., Petrocelli A., Alongi G., Saracino O.D., Cormaci M. & G. Furnari (2000), Marine benthic flora of the Gargano promontory (Adriatic Sea, southern Italy). Flora Mediterranea, 10: 325-347, I proposed at page 335 the combination Audouinella codii (Hamel) G. Furnari since that previously proposed by Garbary was invalid because it was based on the nomen nudum Callithamnion codii P. et H. Crouan.". Under Art. 41.4 of the ICN, Acrochaetium codii can be regarded as a new name validated by Hamel's (1927:30) description and is treated as such by INA. (7 Apr 2010) [details]

Taxonomic remark Acrochaetium codii is probbaly part of a species complex that includes A. caespitosum, A. botryocarpum, and A rhizoideum (Guiry, pers. comm.) the species limits of which remain to be resolved. Furnari & Cormaci (2016: 242) refer the name to the synonymy of Colaconema codii. (14 Mar 2016)

Combination previously proposed by Børgesen, 1915:56, with basionym Callithamnion codii Croaun frat. 1860, inval. The former combination is invalid: lacking description and its basionym is invalid [INA] [details]
