Editor's comment Indeterminable from Montagu's description, which lacked a figure. There is later supposition that he was describing a Hydroides, but it seems best not to assign it. Johnston (1865: 271) is one who adds the link to Hydroides by tentatively including Eupomatus pectinatus Philippi under S. reversa. [details]
Taxonomy Often attributed to the genus Spirorbis, however, Montagu clearly refers to a variable spiralised tube, while Brown's figure (1844 pl.54 fig.52) shows a slightly irregular spiral, not typical for spirorbids. Johnston (1865: 271) mentions Eupomatus pectinatus as possible synonym, indicative of the final attribution to Hydroides norvegicus. [details]Unreviewed
