From editor or global species database
Editor's comment part of the group of taxa brought together by ten Hove (1970) under the subspecific name Spirobranchus giganteus corniculatus, which in the meantime is thought to be a complex of species in itself: Spirobranchus corniculatus-complex, see Fiege & ten Hove (1999 fig.4) for a graphic overview. The morphotype S. cruciger is not supported by DNA, and synonymised with S. corniculatus (by Willette et al 2015). There is a lot of confusion in the existing identifications of circumtropical "Sp. giganteus", but the use of the latter binomen should be restricted to the specimens from the Caribbean. [details]
Spelling Alternative: crucigerus, crucigera [details]
