Original spelling "Hygrophiles" (vernacular), latinized by Herrmannsen (1846 [in 1846-1852]: 547). Established as a suborder containing the family Lymnaeidae. Ranked by Starobogatov (1970b: 46) as an order containing the superfamilies Chilinoidea, Latioidea, and Lymnaeoidea. [details]
