[From Preface:]
This study records the non-pelagic marine annelids taken by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition, 1901‒1903. The annelids are partly reported earlier, the Maldanidae by Arwidsson, 1911, the Pectinariidae by Nilsson, 1912, the Phyllodocidae by Bergström, 1914, the Polynoidae by Bergström, 1916, the Ampharetidae and Terebellidae by Hessle, 1917, the Spionidae by Söderström, 1920, the Sabellidae and Serpulidae by Johansson, 1922 and 1927, and the Hesionidae by Hessle, 1925. The results of these various studies are summarized and additional records given. The pelagic polychaetes have been studied by Støp-Bowitz and published in this volume no. 7, 1951.
I am indebted to the Administration of the Allan Hancock Foundation of the University of Southern California for material aid and facilities to conduct these studies. To Professor N. H. Odhner, Stockholm, l owe thanks for permission to examine the collections and for additional loan of other type materials. The plates were prepared and arranged by Anker Petersen. The collections with type species are deposited in the Swedish State Museum; a duplicate set is in the Allan Hancock Foundation.
