Etymology The genus name was derived from Greek σεμνός semnos, modest, reluctant, and from Greek deres, neck, a common suffix of cyclorhagid genera, and probably referred to the contrast of a species armed with numerous spines giving the impression to be able to defend itself and the small size of the species.
