Authority While having been unanimously attributed to Thomson, 1877 in print, revisiting the original publications shed new light on the correct authority of Aerope. The first published description in association with this name actually was actually published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society, Vol. 25, Issue 173, published in 1876, in a work by A. M. Norman, who the biological material of the Valorous Cruise. Since Norman’s article predated the book in which Thomson described Aerope, under ICZN Article 50.1, Norman is the author of the species, since he was the first to fulfil the criteria of availability (see note under Aerope rostrata for more details).
