Description Plants consisting of terete prostrate axes, attached by clumps of unicellular rhizoids arising irregularly along prostrate axes. Erect axes terete to compressed, subdistichously branched. Apical cells single, dome-shaped. Subapical cells distichously divided. Outermost cortical cells regularly to irregularly arranged in surface view. Axial and periaxial cells aligned in the thallus medial plane, remaining obvious especially in the upper and middle parts of the thallus. Tetrasporangial sori formed in apical parts of erect axes and lateral branches; tetrasporangia initiated from periaxial cells, subspherical, regularly arranged in parallel transverse tiers or in chevrons.
