Etymology The specific epithet viridis, Latin adjective meaning 'green', refers to the green color of the species. [details]
Habitat Among dead corals, seagrasses, algae, rubble and sediment, intertidal to shallow water depths. [details]
Type locality Northeastern Atlantic Ocean, Madeira Island (Portugal) (geocoordinates not provided, but estimated with gazetteer to be approximately lat. 32.64º, long. -16.9º), among vegetation, probably algae, on beach. [details]
Type material The species was described by Langerhans (1879: 543) with base on three immature small specimens, with 34-36 segments and up to 0.5 cm long. [details]
