Biology Type of larval development: short planktonic (non-planktotrophic) inferred from prodissoconch morphology (Malchus & Warén, 2005) [details]
Diagnosis Shell small, up to 10 mm in height, solid, oval in shape but markedly oblique, not very inflated, with dorsal margin nearly straight. Umbo situated towards the anterior third of the hinge line, rather blunt. In the antero-dorsal margin the valves may have a bisal notch through which the byssus is attached to the substrate. Sculpture of flat comarginal cords, broader than interspaces, and radial striae which form a granular surface over the valves. Inner margin of the valves with fine, hardly visible crenulations. Colour of shell whitish with the hinge line and umbos characteristically tinged with purplish brown. Periostracum yellowish brown, with hairy projections arranged radially. [details]
Distribution Atlantic, in the Ibero-Moroccan area and the Strait of Gibraltar; Alboran Sea.
