Taxonomy The name Cerithium lima was described with a probably erroneous type locality in Guadeloupe, but was later used by several Mediterranean authors including Philippi (1836) and others. Philippi (1836) stated this to be the same as Cerithium latreillii Payraudeau, 1826, (a valid species of Bittium) but the name could have been applied as well to Bittium reticulatum (da Costa 1778) since both species were considered synonyms by most XIXth century authors.
