Belgica information (en): Island 3 mi long, lying 1.5 mi SW of Booth Island in the Wilhelm Archipelago. Discovered and named Krogmann Island by a German expedition under Dallmann, 1873-74, but the name Hovgaard, applied by the BeIgAE, 1897-99, under Gerlache, has overtaken the original name in usage. The name Krogmann Point (q.v.) has been given to the W extremity of Hovgaard Island. http://geonames.usgs.gov |

Discovered and named Krogmann Island by a German expedition under Dallmann, 1873-1874, but the name Hovgaard, applied by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition, 1897-1899, under Adrien de Gerlache, has overtaken the original name in usage. Gerlache named this island for Andreas Hovgaard, hydrographer and Danish naval officer on Nordenskjöld’s Vega expedition. |

Belgica information (fr): Ile de 5 km de long, située à 3 km au sud-ouest de l’île Booth dans l’archipel Wilhelm. Découverte et baptisée « île Krogmann » par l’expédition allemande de 1873-1874 sous le commandement de Dallmann. Toutefois, le nom « Hovgaard » donné par l’expédition belge en Antarctique de 1897-1899 sous le commandement d’Adrien de Gerlache est aujourd’hui utilisé en lieu et place du nom d’origine. De Gerlache baptisa cette île en l’honneur d’Andreas Hovgaard, hydrographe et officier de la Marine danoise de l’expédition Nordenskjöld’s Vega. |

Belgica information (nl): Dit 5 km lange eiland ligt 3 km ten zuidwesten van Booth Eiland in de Wilhelm Archipel. Een Duitse expeditie (1873-1874) onder leiding van Dallmann ontdekte het eiland en noemde het Krogmann Eiland. De Belgische Antarctica expeditie (1897-1899) onder leiding van Adrien de Gerlache gaf het zijn huidige naam Hovgaard, die de oorspronkelijke naam heeft verdrongen. De Gerlache noemde het eiland naar Andreas Hovgaard, een hydrograaf en Deens marineofficier bij de Vega-expeditie van Nordenskjöld. |
