Belgica information (en): Island 1.5 mi long and 1 mi wide, lying off the E side of Anvers Island and 1 mi NE of Cape Astrup, Wiencke Island, in the Palmer Archipelago. Discovered by the BelgAE, 1897-99, under Gerlache. The name appears on a map based on a 1927 survey by DI personnel on the Discovery. The profile of the island suggests a reclining lion when viewed from the southwest.http://geonames.usgs.gov |
