GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): History: Named from the nearby Hikunui Island, east of Coromandel Peninsula, North Island of New Zealand.    
Additional information (en): This feature lies between Hikunui Valley to the N and Ngatoro Basin to the S, in the outer Hauraki Gulf/Bay of Plenty region. The name first appeared on NZ Coastal Bathymetry Series (CBS) chart 'Cuvier' in 1989.
