Notes GEBCO: associated meeting, proposer and year of proposal (en): Associated meeting: SCUFN-29. Proposer: Mark Dyer, New Zealand Geographic Board (NZGB); and Adam Greenland, New Zealand Hydrographic Office (LINZ). Year of proposal: 2016.
GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: New Zealand research vessel "Tui". Year of discovery: 1965. History: Named by Dr Alick Kibblewhite because of the "rumble" sound recorded on the RNZ Navy hydrophone network near Auckland when erupting. RNZN research vessel "Tui" surveyed the area where the acoustic signals were coming from in the mid-1960s, with bathymetry maps published in Kibblewhite and Denham 1967. All volcanoes in the vicinity were named either "Rumble" or "Silent" during the early surveys. Subsequent surveys identified Rumble I Seamount and Silent I Seamount to be part of Kermadec Ridge rather than stratovolcanoes.
Additional information (en): This feature forms a volcanic cone with a small satellite peak on its SW flank. In the Kermadec volcanic arc, it is located 13 km SE of Rumble II West Seamount, 36 km north of Rumble III Seamount and 25 km SW of Rose-Marie Thompson Seamount. Minimum depth (m): 850. Maximum depth (m): 2750. Total relief (m): 1900. Dimension: 12 km x 15 km.
