GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Chinese survey vessel "Li Siguang Hao". Year of discovery: 2004. History: Named from its shape as this feature reminds of a hairpin like a piece of jade, which is "Cuiqiao" in Chinese. The term originates from a song "Yijianmei", by Caishen during the Song Dynasty of China (960-1276). The verse is: "Off her silky hair the hairpin slipped; From the afternoon doze she was aroused; And caught by the Spring flourish." The song depicts a young woman's incessant lovesickness for her husband serving far in the frontier battlefield. |
