GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: New Zealand hydrographic survey vessel HMNZS "Lachlan". Year of discovery: 1969. History: Named from the nearby bay and locality of Hoopers Inlet ("Puketuroto" in Maori language - "puke": hill; "tu": to stand; "roto": inland or lake), New Zealand. Dual name adopted by the New Zealand Geographic Board in 2014.    
Additional information (en): This is a short feature that leads from the Otago shelf into the centre channel of Bounty Trough, to the SE of the South Island of New Zealand. The name first appeared on Oceanic Bathymetry Series (OBS) chart 'Otago' in 1969. Minimum depth (m): 200. Maximum depth (m): 1300. Total relief (m): 1100.
