GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): History: Named from the nearby Hokianga Harbour, North Island of New Zealand. "Hokianga" literally means: 'the circumstance of returning'.    
Additional information (en): This feature is located approximately 35 km SW of the entrance to Hokianga Harbour. The name first appeared on NZ Coastal Bathymetry Series (CBS) chart 'Hokianga' in 1984. Minimum depth (m): 350. Maximum depth (m): 700. Total relief (m): 350. Dimension: 25 km x 20 km.
