GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel "Takuyo". Year of discovery: 1997. History: Named after the Japanese novelist Ryunosuke Akutagawa (1892-1927), during the Taisho to Showa periods of Japan. He is regarded as one of the leading novelists in the Japanese literature. Ryunosuke is the first name as, at that time, it was common and popular for Japanese writers to be called by their first names. This feature is associated with the nearby Great Writers Seamount Province. |
