GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Chinese research vessel "Haiyang Erhao". Year of discovery: 1980. History: Named after the Chinese astronomer Shi Shen (4th century BC - years of birth and death unknown). He lived in the Chinese Wei State during the Warring States period (475 to 221 BC). His works included the 8-volume "The rocks of Space", an important part of "Star Manual" of the Masters Gan and Shi. Master Gan was Shi Shen's contemporary Gan De, from Qi State. |
