Notes GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Chinese research vessel "Haiyang Erhao". Year of discovery: 1980. History: Named after the Chinese astronomer Shi Shen (4th century BC - years of birth and death unknown). He lived in the Chinese Wei State during the Warring States period (475 to 221 BC). His works included the 8-volume "The rocks of Space", an important part of "Star Manual" of the Masters Gan and Shi. Master Gan was Shi Shen's contemporary Gan De, from Qi State.    
GEBCO: associated meeting, proposer and year of proposal (en): Associated meeting: SCUFN-30. Proposer: Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey, China. History: 2017.    
Additional information (en): This feature has a steepness of 5 to 15 °. The International Astronomical Union named a crater on the moon's surface as Shishen Crater, in recognition of his contribution to astronomy. Minimum depth (m): 2726. Maximum depth (m): 3862. Total relief (m): 1136. Dimension: 32 km × 20 km
