GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: U.S. research vessel "Robert D. Conrad". Year of discovery: 1973. History: Temiminó refers to an individual of the indigenous group Temiminós, that occupied coastal areas of the Brazilian States of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo. Temiminó is a word from the Tupi indigenous language that means “descendant”. The Temiminós were catechized by Portuguese colonizers and became their allies in conflicts against French colonizers. They were instrumental in founding some important Brazilian cities, such as Niterói (Rio de Janeiro State) and Serra (Espírito Santo State).
