GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: U.S. research vessel "Vema". Year of discovery: 1966. History: Named from the U.S. research vessel "Vema", with the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (L-DEO), Columbia University, USA, from 1951 to 1980s. She conducted surveys in this area.
