GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: U.S. research vessel "Vema". Year of discovery: 1974. History: Named after Haroldo Erwin Asmus (1932-2020), a Brazilian petroleum geologist and a pioneer in marine geology. He contributed to the REMAC (Brazilian Continental Shelf Recognition) project and the PGGM (Marine Geology and Geophysics Program). He was also a professor at the Rio Grande Federal University Foundation (FURG).
