GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Brazilian survey vessel "Sirius". Year of discovery: 1990. History: Named after Akihisa Motoki (1952-2015), a Japanese geologist graduated as master in Earth Sciences at Kobe University (Japan), then doctor in Geosciences at São Paulo University and professor at the Geology Department of Rio de Janeiro State University, Brazil. He contributed to Brazilian research, notably about petrology of igneous rocks, geochemistry and mineralogy.
