GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". Year of discovery: 2009. History: Named from the bagras tree (eucalyptus deglupta). The bagras, which grows in the island of Mindanao, is also known as “rainbow eucalyptus” for the distinct discoloration of its bark when shedding, thus displaying vivid hues of orange, yellow, and purple. It is locally considered as a medicinal tree for its antiseptic, antimalarial, and antibacterial properties.
