GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". Year of discovery: 2008. History: Named from the Almaciga tree (Agathis philippinensis), a tree native to the Philippines. Almaciga is prized for its high-grade resin, known as Manila copal. The tapping of this resin is the primary livelihood for many indigenous people in Sierra Madre mountain range and Palawan forests.
