GEBCO: associated meeting, proposer and year of proposal (en): Associated meeting: SCUFN-34.3. Proposer: Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation (DHN), Brazil. History: 2021.    
GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: U.S. research vessel "Atlantis II". Year of discovery: 1971. History: Named after Rear Admiral Jair Alberto Ribas Marques (1946-2021), a Brazilian hydrographer who gave great contributions to subjects related to the Oceans and the Law of the Sea, to the United Nations and Brazil. He took part, as an expert, in the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) from 2012 to 2021. In Brazil, he had been in command (1993-1995) of the Almirante Câmara Oceanographic Vessel, an important survey ship for the Brazilian Continental Shelf Project. Admiral Ribas acted as an advisor from the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation (DHN), to the Brazilian Continental Shelf Project (LEPLAC).
