GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Canadian CSS (now CCGS) "Hudson". Year of discovery: 1969. History: Named after Airton Adolpho Northfleet (1934-2021), a Brazilian geologist. He was part of the first group of Brazilian geologists of Petrobras in 1962. He was a coordinator of the GEPAP (Petrobras Special Group of Antarctic Project) and LEPLAC (Brazilian Continental Shelf Project), strengthening the relationship between Petrobras and the Brazilian Navy to survey the Brazilian continental shelf.
