History: Named after Rolando Peña (1941-2018), one of the most distinguished geologists in the Philippines who spearheaded thePhilippine Stratigraphic Guide and authored the Lexicon of PhilippineStratigraphy. His scientific contributions to Philippine geology, particularlystratigraphy, allowed Filipino geologists to describe the country’s geologicformations in detail. Mr. Peña was part of the multidisciplinary team whichprepared the Philippine submission for an extended continental shelf in the Benham Rise Region, now called the Philippine Rise.
