GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Chinese research vessel "Haiyang Sihao". Year of discovery: 2004. History: "Bian Yu" means "to distinguishpeople's moral cultivation" in ancient Chinese and is taken from the poetic lines “Bian Yu Xian Bian Shi , Lun Shi Xian Lun Ge”. These lines belong to the poem book "Zheng Ningfu Yuxuan", from the famous poet Dai Fugu (1167-1248 AD), during the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD).
