GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". Year of discovery: 2003. History: Named from the city of Caoayan, in the Philippines province of Ilocos Sur. Caoayan was established as a village in 1825 and is known for its loom weaving industry which dates back before the Spanish period.
