GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Chinese research vessel "Haiyang Sihao". Year of discovery: 1999. History: "Pian Zhou" means "the small boat" in Chinese and is taken from the poetic lines “Shui Jia Jin Ye Pian Zhou Zi, He Chu Xiang Si Ming Yue Lou”. These lines belong to the poem book "A Moonlit Night On The Spring River", from the famous poet Zhang Ruoxu, during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD).
