GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Brazilian survey vessel "Vital de Oliveira". Year of discovery: 2021. History: Named from the Brazilian Navy hydro-oceanographic vessel "Vital de Oliveira" that discovered this feature. She had been named after Captain Manoel Antonio Vital de Oliveira (1829-1867), a Brazilian hydrographer and geographer, considered as a hero in the Paraguay War of 1867 and the "patron" of Brazilian Hydrography.
