GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". Year of discovery: 2007. History: Named from the Bangkal (Nauclea orientalis), a tree species endemicto the Philippines. It is a fairly large tree up to 35 m tall; its bole is usually straight, up to 80-100 cm in diameter. The wood of Bangkal is used for light framing, interior joinery, weatherboard, flooring, furniture, cabinet work, moldings. It is also used for house construction and the wood is considered suitable for making agood pulp for paper production. |
