GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel "Takuyo". Year of discovery: 1988. History: Named from its geographical location as the feature is part of a tectonic element known as “Sofu-gan Tectonic Line”.(“Kita” means “north” in Japanese).
