GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: OSAE survey vessel "Fugro Gauss". Year of discovery: 2011. History: Named after Dr. Kenitiro Suguio (1937-2021), a Brazilian geologist very important to the education of several generations of geologists and oceanographers in Brazil. He worked for the Brazilian Oil Company Petrobras and had a remarkable career at the São Paulo University. Kenitiro Suguio published several books on earth science and sedimentary geology and his bibliographical production is among the most extensive in Brazilian sedimentary geology. He received several awards and commendations and founded, in 1984, the Brazilian Association of Quaternary Studies. |
