Notes Additional information (en): This feature is curved offshore from Tamatea / Dusky Sound on the southwest coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Name adopted from the NZGB Gazetteer. Minimum depth (m): 100. Maximum depth (m): 4350. Total relief (m): 4250. Dimension/size: 60 km long.    
GEBCO: associated meeting, proposer and year of proposal (en): Associated meeting: SCUFN-36. Proposer: New Zealand Geographic Board (NZGB). History: 2023.     
GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): History: First appeared as Five Fingers Canyon on Coastal Bathymetry Series (CBS) chart 'Dusky' in 2001. Altered to Taumoana Canyon to restore the original Maori name of the associated land feature, Five Fingers Peninsula. "Taumoana" means 'one of the islands on which Tu stood as he strained to lengthen the sounds'. The associated marine reserve is also named Taumoana (Five Finger Peninsula) Marine Reserve.
