Additional information (en): This feature has an elongated shape. A sediment-filled depression approximately 220 km long located West of Luzon was initially introduced as the West Luzon Basin in the study entitled “The Manila Trench and West Luzon Basin” by geologists William J. Ludwig, Dennis E. Hayes, and John I Ewing published in the Deep-Sea Research, Volume 14 issue in 1967. The undersea feature, however, was re-identified as a basin and referred to as West Luzon Basin by the 2011 study entitled the “Geologicalevolution of the West Luzon Basin” by Arfai et.al, published in January 2011 inthe Springer Science & Business Media. Name adopted from the Philippines Gazetteer. Minimum depth (m): 1847. Maximum depth (m): 2668. Total relief (m): 821. Dimension/size: 70 km x 281 km. |
