GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". History: Named from the Alupag tree, an evergreen fruit-bearing plant indigenous to the Philippines. This tree is a close relative of litchi and produces delicious fruits. It can grow up to 7-10 meters tall and has leathery textured leaves that can reach up to 30 cm in length with 6-9 pairs of leaflets. Alupag thrives in places with a subtropical climate or tropical highlands and can be propagated by seed, which takes around two weeks to germinate. |
