GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". Year of discovery: 2005. History: Named from the Balorinay (Ptilinopus occipitalis), a bird also known as the yellow-breasted fruit dove in English. This bird belongs to the Columbidae family and is endemic to the Philippines. It can be found in tropical moist lowland forests. Although it is classified as "least concern" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), its population is declining due to habitat loss, hunting and trapping for illegal wildlife trade. |
