GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". Year of discovery: 2006. History: Named after “Bathala”, the supreme god, the creator, in ancient mythology among the Tagalogs. According to F. Landa Jocano’s Outline of Philippine Mythology (1969), Bathala is the grand conserver of the universe – the caretaker of nature and the creatures of the earth. From this, evolved the Filipino attitude of “bahala na” or “Let Bathala take care of it” which gives a person tremendous courage in the face of danger.
