GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessels "Hydrographer Presbitero" and "Hydrographer Ventura". Year of discovery: 2005. History: Named from the Bukaw, the Philippine Scops Owl, a unique owl species found only in Northern Mindanao, Philippines. It is considered "least concern" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) but is classified as 'Endangered' or 'Vulnerable.' The Scops Owl is a small to medium-sized owl with distinguishing ear feathers, which lives on lowlands and foothills of forests. |
